James Howe is an American author whom was born on August 2, 1946, in Oneida NY.
He was raised by his parents, their names are unknown, even after thorough research. James Howe is American, contributing to the setting of this book. The book also takes place in New York State, so I'm assuming that paintbrush falls (The Misfits) is actually Oneida NY.
His wife (Deborah Howe) inspired him to write Bunnicula, and he co-authored it with her. When she died on June 3rd 1978, at 31 years old, James felt broken inside and turned to writing to distract him. He started writing full time in 1981, and wrote A Hospital Book in her memory.
James Howe must have been bullied, or didn't fit in to school when he was young because most of his novels deal with fitting in.
Speaking of school, he wrote plays for theater studies at Boston university, and eventually moved to New York City to work as an actor. once he started writing, he wrote works like the Bunnicula series and The Misfits series.
If you want to see some of the books he wrote, here's a link to a list of them.
James Howe has won the Dorothy Canfield Fisher Children's Book Award
(Voted best children's book by Vermont schoolchildren)
Something noteworthy about this author is that he has been writing for 38 years, and is now 72 years old.
